I am Levy Michaels. Once my kind were the hunters—now we are the hunted.

Supernaturals are out of the closet but I have to stay hidden because of the type of magic I possess. I’m a Legacy. It sounds like the title should come with reverence, a trust fund, or at the very least a cool backstory—instead it comes with a death sentence.

I have to hide in plain sight and pretend to be just human. I’m pretty good at it. I live a simple and somewhat normal life, and I work in antique acquisitions. Everything’s going fine until a dangerous and enchanted dagger that was once in my possession is stolen. I didn’t think things could get any worse until I woke up next to a dead shifter, fae, and mage, without any memory of the past twenty-four hours.

Considered guilty of murder by most of the magical community and humans, I must work with Gareth, the sexy and dangerous leader of the Supernatural Guild. If he’s as good as rumored, it’s only a matter of time until he discovers the truth about me—then being found guilty of murder is the least of my worries.

I'm writing a review of the first book in the series but I'm almost done with book 2 and I noticed a pattern in the author's writing that's bothering me. The book has a good plot but the story and but secondary characters lack depth. I want to tell the author to stop repeating how powerful the Legacy are and the horrifying Cleanse. I get this is a series and an explanation is warranted in each installment to bring new readers up to speed or if it's being read as a standalone. But is there a point to repeating Legacy/Vertu and Cleanse multiple times within the same book? I'm not senile. I remember what I read every 30 minutes or so. Copying and pasting to add word count is just plain lazy.

The book also needs more storylines to setup the introduction of new characters and to add more backstory to develop each role. I think with good editing the series will be much more engaging. Otherwise every book in the series is just a repetition.

DoubleSided Magic Legacy Series Book 1 edition by McKenzie Hunter Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews

I loved the Sky Brooks Series and thought this one would be more of the same. It’s different but definitely a great story. It’s hard not to compare the two series but I can’t help it. The similarities the writing is always fun descriptive and engaging. The smug, arrogant Alpha males (you have to love them.) And a humorous snarky protagonist. Great interaction between the supporting characters. The differences Levy is definitely a take charge, kick a$$ character and I really like it. The story has a lot more action and is a quicker pace than the other series. The supporting characters are more likable. I liked a lot of the characters in the Brooks series, but the characters in this book are a fun, witty and charming. Savannah, as a supporting character, is absolutely awesome.

Overall, this as a good read and I am definitely looking forward to the next book n this series and the other books in the Sky Brooks series. 4.5 stars.
Double-Sided magic set up a very interesting world. I wanted to know more about that, but we just get the top level bullet points over and over. The writing is very repetitive. There's plenty of action, but the story just doesn't get interesting, even over 50% in. What was going to should have been interesting, but I just didn't connect with the main character or anyone else in the world, so it was just tedious instead.

On a positive note, this book did the best set-up for "I don't remember what happened to me and have to retrace my steps with an annoying and sexy person I'd rather not be around because I want to jump them and shouldn't". We get three solid chapters establishing the characters, world and other things. Then chapter 4 opens with the main character being woken up at a murder scene with no memory of how they got there.

Despite this positive, after the rush of the initial mystery the book gradually became boring. Also, I wasn't impressed by the love interest's shape as a shifter. It was a little too Kate Daniel's for me.
A firm 4 star book. I took a star away for repetitive writing. I completely understood that the lead last was a legacy and needed to stay off the radar. Other than that,I completely enjoyed this book.

Levy, or Olivia is a strong female lead. Though she still has a lot to learn. I enjoyed the interactions she has with the other characters. Especially her best friend and The leading man. Wink wink. The author did a really good job at giving each character their own personalities.

All the different supernatural beings were done nicely. You have the usual humans that are not magical that want to be separate. They are kinda crazy. The supernatural that want to be the best and only, they too are crazy. Mixed them together and you have this book.

This is a nice easy read for any fan of the paranormal world. Even had some chuckles in it. I will be starting book two when I am done with this review. I actually really loved the way this book ended.
I got worked myself up so much on Jenna Moreci's Eve -- The Awakening, that I wanted to read something more decent than that. According to , this book is intented for the same audience, so I had a look.

As for literary value, this is still not much, but if you want an urban fantasy with decent wordbuilding, stereotipycal characters with some additional depth and unique flavor and a likeable protagonist, this can be a good choice.

I liked the dynamic between the protagonist and the main character -- the end twist between them was screamingly obvious, but they have an interesting chemistry and a complex, ever-changing relationship.

The book's incorporation of magic into the normal world was intriguing enough to keep reading; unfortunately, the solution to the central mystery was a bit of a letdown. There is a lot of exciting action and tense moments, though.

The author's storytelling still needs some polish, but she has a fluent, easy to read style.

If you wish for a bit of guilty pleasure, you may check this out.
4 Stars... This book started off a little rocky for me primarily due to some repetition in the dialogue that seemed centered around the world building, however, several chapters in and I found myself becoming increasingly invested in the story... A world where all types of supernaturals (Mages, Vampires, Shifters, Witches, etc) coexist harmoniously with the humans after suffering the “Cleanse” several decades ago... One woman, in hiding due to her supernatural abilities, gets thrust into a devious plot that threatens to expose her and potentially end her existence; add in the handsome but brooding shifter and the sexy but sinister vampire and you get a thrilling journey that twists the reader through this magical mystery... I will definitely continue with the series and look forward to how this story will continue to unravel)
